La Lotería: An Exploracion of México Limited Edition Prints

These limited edition prints were made because the original paintings to this installation series are not for sale individually.

These archival quality Giclee prints have an
Edition of 50 each.

El Mundo Al Revès
(The World Upside Down)

These black and white relief prints were inspired by an antique broadside print  titled “El Mundo al Revés” I saw over 10 years ago while traveling through Spain (similar to the one below). There is very limited information as to the history of these prints.

(Late 19th century, Madrid relief print, San Antonio Museum of Art) Entertaining scenes showing the world’s natural order in reverse go back as far as ancient egypt.  They were popular in Germany and the low countries during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. One of the latent functions of these prints was to remind people of the proper order of things by showing them in reverse.  -Vincent Ribes Iborra “Folk Art of Spain and the Americas”  Abbeville publishing Group.

It wasn’t until recently that I was able to bring this print project to fruition.  Interestingly enough, I also happened to be listening to an audio book titled “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Safron Foer, a book about the factory food industry of meat and their unethical treatment of animals.
